3D printer

Owning a 3D printer can be lots of fun and opens up a lot of possibilities for fabricating objects. However, if you want to print an object, you need to design it in a CAD program. This is a limitation that Volumental is trying to remove. By making it easy to scan objects (even people) and getting them ready to be 3D printed through a web service using readily available depth cameras such as the Microsoft Kinect.

However, they need your help. In order to launch this awesome 3D scanning service they are gathering funds via Kickstarter. With 14 days to go (at the time of this post) they are more than halfway to their 20 000$ goal. This means you have only 14 days to get the 3D printing perks and early access to this service. See their video below for an explanation about this new service.

We are very excited about this type of technology since it will even further democratize 3D printers and unleash lots of creativity from the community. What would your scan and print with this technology? Leave your comments below.
